What is Open Enrollment (OE)?

Open Enrollment is the once-a-year opportunity for benefit-eligible employees to enroll in or make changes to their benefits—for themselves and any covered dependents. Elections made during Open Enrollment will take effect on January 1, 2026.

What does this mean for you?

  • Open Enrollment will occur October 21 to November 4, to elect benefits that will begin January 1, 2026.
  • If you currently have or wish to enroll in a Health Care Flexible Spending Account (HCFSA), a Health Savings Account (HSA), or a Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (DCFSA) you must elect during Open Enrollment, as these annual elections do not automatically carry over to 2026. If you miss the open enrollment window:
    • HCFSA: You may only enroll later if you experience a qualifying life event (QLE) and complete an enrollment event in MyHR within 30 days of the QLE date.
    • HSA: You can enroll at any time in MyHR life events. However, if your participation begins with an effective date after January 1, 2026, the employer contribution will be prorated.
    • DCFSA: You may only enroll later if you experience a qualifying event. The employer contribution will be prorated if participation begins after January 1, 2026.
  • If you want to continue Short-Term Disability and/or enroll into the Voluntary Supplemental Health Benefits you will need to complete Open Enrollment.
  • If you do not want to make any changes to your current benefits you do not need to complete Open Enrollment, they will roll over to 2026 (excluding the items mentioned above).

We understand this is a lot of information.
We are here to help.

The benefits team has created an entire menu of help sessions with vendors and Salem Health benefits staff onsite at Salem and West Valley hospitals.

If you need to sign up for benefits but don’t have easy access to a computer, we’ve got you covered there too!

On the Salem campus, computer rooms in the basement of Building B will be open and available beginning Tuesday, Oct. 21 from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Salem Health staff will be onsite and available to assist with online enrollment during the vendor/staff hours listed. Come visit, say hi and get your questions answered.

  • Vendors representing medical, dental, short/long-term disability, life insurance, retirement plans, flexible & health spending accounts, and the new voluntary benefits (Critical Illness, Hospital Indemnity, Accident Insurance, and Pet Insurance) will be available onsite.
  • Walk-in help sessions at both Salem Health and West Valley campuses, to navigate the enrollment events.
  • Please note: Vendors and SHHC benefits staff will not visit SHMG clinics, so please plan to visit during the dates and times listed below.

  • Flyers including plan summaries will be available digitally on the benefits website or physical copies during the on-site sessions.
  • Where Do I Enroll?

Enrollment will take place within your Employee Space – MyHR portal. You may go into the portal as many times as needed during the Open Enrollment window, however, all elections must be submitted no later than November 4th. A Tip Sheet with visuals will be available to assist in how to make elections in the Open Enrollment event.

Be sure to carefully review the confirmation sheet provided to ensure you have elected the correct plans and enrolled all applicable spouse/dependents. The confirmation sheet will be emailed to your Salem Health email address.
